Analyze your favorite part of your Lit Circle book. Use quotes from the book
to show the AMAZINGNESS of
this part.Explain why it was so great!
How did this part help your comprehension of the book?
My favorite part of the Lit Circle book I did (Locked in Time by: Lois Duncan) was a part closer to the end. Nore and Dave were locked in a shed and the evil step mom, Lisette, put gas on the side of the shed and lit it on fire. I really liked this part because throughout the book it was “OK” in suspense. But this part I was asking a lot of questions to myself and I really wanted to keep reading. Another part was when Nore went into the shed to read the documents and Gabe was I there and suddenly Dave busted through the door. As they walked out, the sentence was,” Lisette stood quietly waiting there with a gun.” That was something I didn’t expect to happen.
The book I was reading for lit circles was "Locked In Time" by, Lois Duncan. My favorite part of “Locked In Time” was when Josie, the step sister, was crying to Nore when she sobbed/yelled, “Nothing’s ever going to change, Nore! Time keeps going by, but it just doesn’t count for anything!” That was one of my favorite parts because; it helped me comprehend about all that revolves around, that statement. I really liked this part because; Josie really expresses her feeling to Nore. Unfortunately, Nore just doesn’t get the words that are coming out of Josie’s mouth. She didn’t realize what she was saying, was actually true. Nore tried to comfort Josie, but she couldn’t help. Josie probably appreciated Nore comforting her, but no matter how much Nore tried, she couldn’t change anything, because she didn’t understand.
I read the book “Locked in Time”. My favorite part in the book is when Lisette had a gun. I liked this because it ended right at the end of the chapter so it left you on a cliff hanger. It helps my comprehension because I officially know that Lisette is trying to kill Nore. If you didn’t know, Nore is the main character in “Locked in Time”. When we started reading the book, I predicted that someone is going to die. At that point I thought Nore was going to die.
In the book “I am David”, David wants freedom from the concentration camp. David finds out that his mom is alive and try’s to find her in Denmark. My favorite part was when king (David’s dog) sacrificed his life so David can be safe. One quote from the book is “I am David”. David always says this because he is making a point. Something that David’s mom said was “David, David my son”. The reason she didn’t know is that she hasn’t seen David for about eleven years. I would give this book 4/5 stars because during the middle of the book it was kind of slow.
My favorite part of The Trap was Albert’s first two nights being stuck. It helped to tell me how strong Albert was and how smart he was when it came to trapping, and surviving in the wild. Even in the most frustrating parts he stayed calm which is probably why he survived as long as he did. He knew somebody would come looking for him but he didn’t know when. When the wolves came he got them to stay away until end when Johnny came looking for him. If Johnny would have followed his instincts right away I think Albert would still be alive. Because Albert trapped the Squirrel and tried so hard to survive, I could tell he wasn’t giving up.
The book I read for Lit. circles was Code Talker by Joseph Bruchac. One quote that stood out to me was by the Japanese military. They said “Retreating, surrendering or being captured during war is a great shame to your nation and your family.” That quote helped me understand that the Japanese thought differently about war. It also helped me understand what their battle plans would be like. Another reason I like the book is how the author pulled you in and kept you guessing. He put a lot of description in the book. He also had great detail so you could visualize what was going on. He put suspense in a lot of parts of the book which made it interesting.
The book I read was I am David. My favorite part was when he saved a little girl he didn’t know from a burning building. It was so heroic and brave that it made me really think about David’s character and who he is. He didn’t have to save her but he did and that’s what I like about it. Amazing was one of the many words to describe it. It was written by Anne Holm and she did a fantastic job crafting that particular part. It had so much detail and it really let u know what was going on in his head. That was the best part of the book in my opinion. This part was what really tied me in the rest of the book went a bit slow. It was the surprise factor that was so amazing!
In the book Locked in Time by Lois Duncan, my favorite part was probably when Nore sneaks into the slave quarters and finds Lisette’s diary. This part really stuck because to all the suspense in the story that moment [when Nore opens up Lisette's diary] triggered the ending of it all. It was the great finale of the main question-"What is the mysterious secret that Lisette and her family hold?" It truly pulls together the all the clues and it becomes a race between the reader and Nore, Who will solve the mystery first! The amount of suspense in the story reels you in and throws you out. It was definitely worth it!
Code Talker By: Joseph Bruchac My favorite part was pages 213-214. I like these pages because they were home from the war. My favorite quote from this book is “ We could go home and tell the stories to our children and grandchildren. Tell them how this secret language helped our country.” This is my favorite quote because I can relate to it. I relate to it because my great grandpa was in world war II. He is a pretty amazing guy and I love seeing him every summer. I love him so much that I can’t wait to see him next summer.
My Favorite quote in the ‘’ Locked in Time Book’’ is. When Nore goes to visit her Dad because he moved away and send Nore to boarding school. He sent Nore there and moved away because his wife died (Nore’s Mom) and he was really sad. So he sent Nore and note saying that he was sorry and wanted to spend the summer with her so she is visiting him from New York to Shadow Grove in Louisiana. She then finds out that her Dad already got married to a woman named Lisette. And Lisette has two children named Josie and Gabe, so that’s just a sneak peek but my favorite quote is when Dave knocked down Gabe and saved Nore so they tried to go to climb over the fence but Lisette was waiting for them. So then they were forced to go back into the cabin and Lisette was going to put it on fire but that’s all I’m going to tell so that anybody that wants to read this book that I won’t spoil it.
My absolute favorite part from Locked in Time was when Nore snuck stealthily to the cabin, which was filled with Lisette’s diaries and documents. She was surprised that Gabe was waiting for her inside the cabin. Dave the roofer knew that something was wrong because the gate was closed. Dave body bumps into the cabin and sneers, “This is the only time when I don’t respect my elders.” Dave pushes Gabe towards the house. They come around the corner and see Lisette standing with a gun. “To the cabin.” says Lisette snidely. This helped me understand the book because I knew that Lisette maybe didn’t like the how she was living but she did it for her children.
The book that I am choosing for this blog is I am David. My favorite part from I am David is when David saved Maria from the fire. I loved this part because it was so adventurous! Most of the book was slow but this part was just wow! David heroically went into a burning shed to save a little girl, he didn’t even know! This part helped me comprehend the book because it helped me understand David more! I realized that David isn’t a regular boy! He is a brave, caring kid! I guarantee no kid at P6GC would do that! Not even me!
My favorite part in the book, Code Talker was when Ned and the other Marines were walking through the desert. The Code Talkers were smart with their water. Secretly they drank the juice from the cactus. It was funny because the other marines had no water in their canteens but the Code Talkers had full canteens because of the cactus. The Marines kept asking if they still had water. Eventually they found out what the Code Talkers were doing. The author wrote this part really well with lots of detail.
Locked in Time By Louis Duncan In the book Locked in Time I liked the part were Nore decides she needs evidence before she escapes. “The tale of the Berge’ family was so incredible that no one could reasonably be expected to accept it without evidence.” The other part of this book I liked was, “I plucked the padlock free, hastily I stepped inside. Then, as I stretched out my hand for the light switch, I suddenly froze. Instinctively, I knew that I was not the only occupant of the of the room. Someone else was in there in the darkness with me.
The book I read for lit groups was Locked in Time by Lois Duncan. My favorite part was when they got trapped into the shed and the gases were lit with flames, because it had a lot of action in it and I liked how Gabe and Josie saved them in the end. I thought Gabe would never help her since the two times he tried to kill her. I got confused when Lisette got her gun out but didn’t shoot her, but later it says that she wants it to look like an accident and lighting gas on fire might look like a natural cause. Something that helped explain the book was when Nore said “I smell gasoline.” that immediately made me think of Lisette and that she really did want Nore dead for the money and to live another generation of life. It was interesting when the author had Dave in the shed with Nore, because not only would Nore die so would Dave, it really adds a twist of action to the book!
My favorite part in “Locked in Time” is when Nore is about to go on her date with Dave. Although, she wants to prove to Dave, that the Berge’s have eternal youth. Then she goes to the shed where Lisette keeps diaries to death certificates. Nore wants to get Gabe’s and Josie’s birth certificate and death certificates of Lisette’s past husbands. When Nore goes in there Gabe is in there. Gabe tries to reason with Nore, but Nore will take none of it. All of a sudden Dave breaks in and says my most favorite quote. “This is the only time I don’t respect my elders.” Dave grabs Gabe by the arm and throws him on the ground. Dave saves Nore and takes her out of the shed. When they get out Lisette is there with a gun. That is the end of the chapter.
In my lit circle group, we read the book “I am David” by Anne Holm. My favorite part of the book was when David saved Maria from a fire, the author explained it in great detail and it made you feel the heat and tension. I thought it was incredibly smart of David to dip his clothes in water and cover his mouth in it, if I was in his situation, I would’ve ran away and try to find a source of water. When David came out of the fire, it seems as if he doesn’t care about the attention he’s getting, but the happiness that he has accomplished saving Maria by himself, no help from “The God of the Green Pastures and the Still Waters”. During the fire, Maria fainted, making it even harder for David because he has to carry her. At the beginning, David said, “God of the Green Pastures and the Still Waters, please don’t help me. I want to do it by myself so that You’ll know I found something to do for You… I am David. Amen.” It tells the reader that David wants to help his God because he did many things to David. After David saves Maria he stays with her family and lives for one more day.
I read the book, Locked In Time. I liked the way that Lois Duncan, the author wrote about Josie saying “I’ll always remember Hartford, because that’s where the Ringling Circus tent caught on fire.” I like that part because it gives you a little bit of suspicion. Throughout the story, Josie seems to be giving out hints about their past. A little bit after that part, Nore remembers her mom telling her something. Something about that fire. The date of the fire that Josie Gabe and Lisette went to happened 40 years ago.
My favorite part of The Trap was, when the dog fought the bear. The quote that made me love this part was, “I never loved the dog more than that moment.” I love this quote because it shows how much he cares. Another reason why I love this part is because the author uses so many details and describes what is happening. At this part he showed so many emotions in Johnny. This part of the book helped you comprehend the book by telling you that his dog had died but he wasn’t willing to let another thing die without somebody there. The book was good, lots of details but not a good ending.
“Locked in Time” If you like spooky and scary books you should read “Locked in Time” by: Lois Duncan. The author who wrote ” I know what you did last summer.” “Locked in Time” is a very interesting book. It’s kind of like “Tuck Everlasting.” The part I thought was the most interesting was when Charlie was telling Nore and Dave all the information about her step family. And she was kind of shocked to hear what Charlie had said about them. He said something like the first husband died because of a boat accident and I think the second car accident there were some other ones too. My other favorite part was when Lissete was holding a gun. We had to stop there for the rest of the day it was a cliffhanger because we couldn’t read any more and we couldn’t stop thinking about it. You should read “Locked in Time” if you like spooky books and if you don’t it may change your mind.
My favorite part of The Trap My favorite of my lit circle book, The Trap is when Albert first gets trapped. Also one of the sentences that in the book that describes him in that part is when it said, “Albert Least-weasel put his foot down and laughed.” This showed that he wasn’t much of a person who worried a lot. Which I thought was an awesome impression. And later in the story you think that he misjudged his situation. But he can still get out of his trap. This story makes you feel like Albert Least-weasel is a hardcore survivalist. Which he might as well be with his experience. So everything is connected to the first part.
