Hyland Ski Trip Stories!

So...yesterday was AWESOME! Skiing was so much fun and I'm super proud of how well you did.  You also got a TON of compliments from the employees at Hyland about how amazing you all were!  WOO HOO!

I'm hoping that yesterday was a day of memory making for you and your friends.  Let's share our stories with everyone. If you are going to use someone's name - be sure to use a pen name/fake name.

  1. I went through all my lessons. I finished the test on my first time! I only fell once. Yesterday was so much fun since I got to spend time with my friends that I barely talk to. I had so much fun! It was a great memory.

  2. Skiing was so cool! I thought it was going to be horrible, but they taught us how to do everything we needed to know! I remember the first time I went down Bigfoot, I fell and my ski popped off and I had to walk all the way down the bottom and I kept slipping! The chair lift though was super fun; it felt like I was flying! Skiing was hard but after a few times you can get the hang of it, and I had a blast!

  3. Skiing was really fun, I loved seeing people wipe out on the black diamond, it was really funny. A person that I know ran into a sign and into a pole on his way down. When I went on black diamond I fell at the middle and tumbled almost all of the way down, it hurt but after a while it got better. While I was on the ski lift I saw a ton of people falling on a hill the whole time, there was this big group of people at the middle and some scattered.

  4. The Hyland ski trip was the best field trip I ever took! I passed the lessons real quick so I went right to the hills. The chairlift was awesome! The first time I went on it my skis felt really heavy. I went on the Bigfoot and the black diamond. I went on the black diamond because I wanted to tell everyone that I went on it. I went on it 3 times making one of the trips without falling once the whole way down!

  5. I thought skiing was so much fun, but my favorite part was the ski lift. It was so high, and when it picked you up it felt like a swing. When I was dropped off, I fell. I had trouble standing straight, I couldn't even get down the mountain so I ended up walking down the mountain. It was really cold and slippery. But it was a lot of fun.

My trip to Hyland was horrible. I just could not ski! I tried and I tried, but I failed! I even had to walk down the hill. I also lost my poles. I prefer snowboarding. My friend Hogan thinks that he’s good at skiing, but he is not. That’s all I have to say for now. Bye!

Yesterday was probably the best time I have had through school! Shindle and I went skiing down some of the steepest hills because we could not tell the difference. The black diamond was probably the most difficult hill that we skied down. Shindle made it down while I flipped over and flew about 3 yards before crash landing and sliding about 6 more yards. In the end it was probably the most fun I have ever had at school. One of the blue square hills was really nice because there were no turns and it was pretty steep. When I went down it Shindle, we had our feet in the wedge the whole time and were still going at full speed! In the beginning I and Shindle had to wait to get our boots and skis which took an extremely long time. After that, lessons did not cheer me up but when we got to go down the hills it was a blast. That was the Explorers Ski Trip.

  8. When we got to Hyland, I didn't listen to the instructions, so I ended up having to wait a VERY long time. Then when I finally got my skis, it took a very long time to get through the training. Then, as I finished the training, it was time to ski. The lift was kind of scary because it was kind of high and it kept stopping. I think the easiest hill was the best and the hardest was the worst because the hardest was boring. It was a very steep hill with a couple of big bumps. But even so, it was fun. I was disappointed when we had to leave.

  9. The ski trip was SO fun! I had a good, no, great time hanging out with my friends! icecreamlovrr and I went down Black Diamond, and it was really steep and fast but fun, even though I fell about five times. And the cookies in the "lodge" are amazing! They were so good and tasty. And the chairlift was sort-of weird, but really cool. On it, my skis felt very heavy, and getting off there is a really petite, short hill that opens up to flat land, and I fell there about two times, but it was fun, actually. My first ride down a larger hill was Bigfoot, which is the “beginner” hill. The first time I fell, it didn’t hurt, but by my second try I didn’t fall once! I’m sure whoever hasn’t gone yet, will have a great and fabulous time! :-)

  10. Highland was fun! I passed the test on my first try. It was easy. There was a jump on one of the hills that was cool but looked dangerous so we just went on it. It was through the trees and Lukias fell off of it. Then I tried because The great was not so great and wimped out so I went. I went and fell then with out no notice the great came in when I was laying right near the landing spot but she just went and sprayed snow at me.

  11. I had very fun time my mom went with it was really fun. Jimmy J. Joe and I went up to a bigger hill and my mom and I just stopped and Jimmy J. Joe kept on going he couldn’t stop he almost hit the stop sign but then he turned. He went inside, my mom and I just skied for a little while then ate lunch. After lunch Jimmy J. Joe and I skied on the bunny hill then I went down bigger hills. Again it was a lot of fun.

  12. My skiing experience was amazing! The training took a long time, but I passed the test. At the end of the test the man at the bottom said, “Great job! I think that was the best run of the day! Beautiful!” My first big hill was Bigfoot. I was a little worried about getting on the lift, but when I got on, the view was BEAUTIFUL. When I got off, I fell, and had a hard time getting back up. When I did get to the start of Bigfoot, there were 3 people before me, and they all fell, but I was confident I wouldn't fall. I eased my way down, and sort of bombed it, because I couldn't control it if I was going slow. I like the fast life!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I LOVED IT! I passed the test and immediately! Once I was accidentally bombing the hill, so I just fell over and did kind-of a flip. At one hill I was turning wide turns and suddenly I was bombing, AGAIN. So I purposely fell over again and my skis flew into the air. A guy helped me up but it wasn't easy. I had to stay perpendicular to the track. I finished the track of and then ate lunch. I had a great time!

  14. Yesterday was probable the best experience of my life. At first when I left the building, I was thinking it wasn’t going to THAT great, but it was! So when we reached, we immediately went into the chalet, and sat down at the closest table. The funny part was, Washthe and Lee, sat down at the table with me. As the people announced the instruction and stuff including that, me Lee, and Washthe got up, and went to stand in line for our snow boots. After around 10-15 minutes of horrible waiting, we got our boots. When I went up to the man giving the boots he said something that I didn’t understand, and didn’t know what to say. But he gave me my boots anyways and I was fine. I got my boots on after a little bit effort. I went back to get my skis. First lesson was a little strange. He made us say BANNANA AND GORRILA! Strange but true, after something like an hour we were on our way to actually ski! The rest of the day flew by.

  15. The Ski Trip
I was going down “wedge 4” and I was doing pretty good going down. Then it got to the steeper of the hill and I picked up some speed. I started going down very fast and I could not stop! I knew I was about to fall to the side and I did not want to, so I made myself fall forward. It hurt more than I thought I thought falling to the front would not hurt that bad, I guess not! :) Otherwise I had a lot of fun! It was fun learning to ski but very challenging.

  16. Hyland was very fun. I passed the lessons and the test right away. It was easy. I went straight to the big hills and went down a lot with my friends. I went down two different hills the whole time but they were fun. I also never fell once. One time my friends and I went down a different hill and my skis came off and my friends went without me and I had to walk down and I saw them on the chairlift and I got mad at them. I didn’t go on black diamond at all because my friend was to scared but I’m sure I will sometime.

  17. Yesterday, January 29th the explorer's group had their first ski trip together. We all went to Hyland and assembled to put our ski's on. Then we had to take lessons, I went with a group of friends to take the lessons. The lessons took at least an hour. One of my friends named Randy passed the test with me on our first try. After the test both of us went to try the beginner hill, Big Foot. We sat on the ski lift and had to get off to get there. Getting off was an epic fail. I tumbled of the ski lift and fell on Randy who toppled over. After we got up and put are skis back on we both went down Big Foot. When we first slid down Randy thought she was going too fast and sat down I tumbled over and fell. Then we both got up and skied all the way down. After that we all figured out how to ski and had a blast!

  18. Something very memorable that happened was probably when I went on the tow rope with one of my friends. Every time she would go on the tow rope she would fall off again. One time I almost ran into her going up the hill and I had to roll back down the hill so I would not hit her. After I skied for a bit I went back inside and ate food for the rest of the day (mostly candy) I probably gave the most money to the cashier out of everyone there. I thought the ski trip was fun but I think they could have taught us how to ski better. So all in all I give this trip a 8 out of 10.

  19. .Yesterday at Hyland my friend kept on falling right when we got to the bottom of every hill. He was nervous about going down the black diamonds, but we convinced him to. He ended up loving those hills. One time when we were going down a hill, he was going too fast and was so close to crashing into a fence. He remembered that if you French fry when you pizza, your going to have a bad time. So he remembered to pizza thankfully.

  20. At Hyland I never fell but I also had to help some people up. It was fun but at the end my friend’s pole fell in into a ditch and I had to reach it! After every one left it was just my dad and I. we stayed till 4:00 then my skiing day was done.

  21. When I was at Hyland I went down so many hills. The fastest and scariest was the Black diamond! The first time I went down it I kept on losing balance and fell. The second time I went on it the same thing happened, but I was going faster for whatever reason and I fell even harder! I went to the Black diamond one last time before leaving, I was about to go over the little bump and then I lost control, POP I fell and started rolling everywhere and even harder but I still was happy because I tried.

  22. Something that happened during the Hyland ski trip I probably won’t remember in the future, but I remember now is when my friend Katy Purry was walking alongside me saying, “Yay, I haven’t fallen yet!” I just stared at her face and said, “Really? You haven’t?” I mean seriously, I fell like a hundred times and she hasn’t fallen yet? “Yeah, I never fell yet!” she replied again with a happy smile. Then, while walking back to the lobby, she almost fell on her belly. “Whoa, I almost fell there!” She exclaimed. Gee, I wished I could push her down and be like, ‘HAHA YOU FELL!’ Then suddenly, some imaginary force pushed Katy Purry down and onto her hands. I started to laugh at her and kept on laughing at her until I fell down. We stared at each other and started to laugh at each other. We got up after a few minutes trying to and headed to the lobby, still laughing at each other. I enjoyed the ski trip because we could also do whatever we wanted, so I mostly hung out with my friends. The training took forever, but that was fine. I still enjoyed though!

  23. My trip to Hyland

My trip to Hyland was awesome, I had so much fun! Now I want my own pair of skis. My friend Bob Jr. went under the sign when we went on snake hill. We all had gone on black diamond but Diylan and I failed but Bob Jr. didn’t, we had a ton of fun. I can’t wait to go back!

  24. I was skiing at Hyland as the wind was blowing through my hair then I fell on my face. Then I ate lunch and bought an ice cream sandwich. When I got back I went on a bunny hill which had a lot less falling I did not fall at all. I found some people I knew such as Jim Ceelo and James Soup. When the bell rang for us to go back to school I went on it one last time and almost fell on someone. When I put all of my stuff away I got a drink and drank it all in a minute. When we got back to school we watched a bunch of skiing fails the day went by so quickly nobody knew it was seventh hour when the bell rang.

  25. Yesterday at Hyland the people sitting at my table thought we had to be dismissed from our table to get in line to get our boots. We ended up being in line for almost 20 minutes and people were already skiing! When I did get on the hills my friend and I fell a bunch of times but we still had a fun time. One time going up the ski lift we saw someone fall of the chair! We were really surprised and we thought she might be hurt. Turns out she was ok. Me and all of my friends each got our fair share of snow in our faces from falling, but skiing turned out to be a lot more fun than I expected.

  26. Yesterday on the ski trip at Hyland, I went skiing with my best friends. 3 of them stayed at the chalet after lessons and my other friend, Anne, walked to the ski lift with me to go on Bigfoot and Black Diamond. The first time we went on the ski lift, she fell on me trying to get off. We laughed so hard and tried standing up again, which was really hard. After that, we went on Bigfoot, which is one of the hills, for the first time. I thought I was going too fast so I sat down. My friend, Carrie, helped me up and I put my skis back on. I continued skiing with Anne and while I was on the ski lift with her, I looked to the right and saw Molly on Black Diamond. I didn't know it was Black Diamond though. I walked over to Molly with Anne and we skied down the hill. I went down really, really fast and I almost slipped but I wasn't scared, I actually had a lot of fun. I went on it two more times and went back to the chalet with Anne and her two friends. I didn't think I would have fun at the ski trip, but I actually did. I had a lot of fun with friends and now I want to go back.

After going down a big hill and almost hitting a stop sign, I didn't want to ski anymore. I went to the chalet and sat there. After I got lunch, I went to the bunny hill. But it turns out I wasn't safe there either. I was going up the hill for the fourth time when suddenly someone fell on the rope tow. I still held on, but they didn't get out of the way fast enough and I hit them. I fell down over him and one ski came off. I got pulled up a little more, with only one ski and my face in the snow.

  28. The trip was okay, I really don’t like skiing that much. I would rather snowboard. But I did like the tow rope and the food. Skiing sucks. I could not turn because I am so used to turning my upper body to make turns on the snowboard. It was really hard to not do “french fries” when going down the hill.

  29. Highland was a blast!!! I did the pre-test, and then went to the test and passed right away. We went to this jump through the trees on a hill, which was super fun. We all tried it, but not all of us successfully landed, but it was still really fun. The day was so fun that my friend lukey dukey and I stayed with our moms after. We decided to trade our ski and ski boots for a snowboard and snowboard boots. This was our first time snowboarding so we went up and down the bunny hill at first. We just taught ourselves as we went along. It was really fun to try something new. We got tired of the bunny hill and forced our moms to let us go on a real hill. We got to the top, strapped our foot in and took a deep breath and went down. We went down a couple more times. I wiped out a couple of times but that was half the fun. We went from not being able to get pulled by the tow rope without falling to going on a big hill, by just teaching ourselves for a short period of time, I thought that was really cool! The whole day was definably a day I won’t forget!

  30. While at Hyland Hills, I was going down the hill, hit a little rock and flew in the air and landed on my face. I also went on a black diamond and flew up about 3 feet and didn’t fall down. My friend and I went down the big foot and he fell twice before getting to the end. Everyone I was with had a great time and I wish we could do it again.

  32. I went on my ski trip yesterday! I went through all the 5 lessons in about an hour and passed the test my first try (it’s not as hard as you might think) I really likes it because you could go with everyone on your team and hang out with your friends. What I really liked is that you could do whatever you wanted you could even ski all day and not eat. Thanks all the explorer teachers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. When I was done with the test I went to chair lift the first time. I was about to go down the black diamond then someone told me where the green one was. I would've gone back but I had homework to do. I was going to ski with my friend but she didn't like skiing. That was the most fun part of sixth grade so far .

  34. I think the ski trip was amazing i wish i could stay longer, i think that it was the best field trip we ever had and i had an amazing time going on the black diamond and the chair lifts and i found out that skiing is easier than i thought.

  35. Skiing on the black diamonds. Then failing on it.

  36. At Hyland Hills, I finished everything with seven tries total. I did it five times for just turning, 1 time turning around the cones, and one time on the final test. After the test I did it again three times. I finished the test on the first try. After that I went to eat, then went on the bunny hill. The bunny hill was so fast; I couldn't stop till at the bottom. After the bunny hill, my friend and I went on the Black Diamond. The Black Diamond was about twice as fast. I wiped out on the 3rd hill because I got so much speed, when I hit the hill I fell and got snow all up in my face. On the second time the same thing happened. Then we left back to Pearson. I would love to ski again.

  37. The Hyland ski trip was really fun. I passed the pre-test right away. I went down the Bigfoot slope and I kept on falling down. Every time I got off the chair lift I would fall down on my butt. It was my first time skiing and also a day I will never be able to forget. It was amazing.

  38. When we went to Hyland I did not think I would ever pass any of the tests because I never skied before EVER! But I did pass. Went on the bunny his 4 times and it was fun I wiped out 3 time but then got the hang of it. I was with my friends Bijay, Bessi ,Galeb and lastly Grady. I had so much fun but the food was expensive! I had lot of fun and wish I could go back some day!

  39. I liked falling on the toe rope and then when I got to the top I went right back down. I mostly skied by myself. When I went in for lunch I got a pop, a corn dog, and some sour patch kids. They were super good and super sour.

  40. At first, I was struggling to ski but after the lessons and practicing, I got the hang of it. This field trip is so far my favorite field trip I’ve gone on and the most memorable! Even though I fell two times, I still had so much fun with my friends and would defiantly go back!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. The ski trip was ok I went down the big foot twice and I was done. I passed all the tests the first time. On the big foot when I fell I couldn’t get back up or put my ski back on because of the steep hill. So I sat down put my knees up by my chest and dragged my Hands behind me, and skied down like that. The food was good, but now I regret giving up.

  42. I Have 7 letters to say about Hyland: a.m.a.z.i.n.g! I liked being there so much! The thing is, my brother doesn't like winter sports and he thought it was AWESOME. But I like winter sports a lot so before we went there I thought, think of how much fun I’LL have! Sure enough, I had a TON of fun.

  43. The ski trip to Hyland didn't go well for me. I passed the test but my skis kept falling, I kept falling, and I struggled to stopping and to go slow..

  44. For me it was my first time skiing and it was really fun. I probably fell about ten times but it really didn't hurt. Every time I would fall it wouldn't hurt but it does hurt your ankle a little bit. Skiing is really easier than it looks I always would do pizza when I went down the hills. My friend really wanted me to go down the diamond so I did I made it to the end and then failed. The chair lifts actually were not that scary.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I really like it! It was my first time skiing and I hope it won’t be the last. I fell a lot. After lunch I went out to find Pablo. Thinking she was on the black diamond. When I got to the bottom I went on the chair left and went on it again. I had so much fun that I forgot all about looking for Pablo.

  48. Hyland is an awesome place to go Skiing and snowboarding. Our school went to Hyland and the hills were the BIGGEST ski hills I’ve ever seen in my whole life and one hill it had bump’s and the big bump was terrifying and when you hit it, felt like I was flying then landed the safely on the ground

  49. I loved the ski trip I didn’t fall once I went one the hard hill and didn’t fall it was a lot of fun I wish I could go there again. I liked seeing people fall. I didn’t like walking with the skis and the ski boots but other than that it was fun. I went right to level 5 because I skied before. My friend fell off the ski lift but she was ok it was just about when we were going to get of the ski lift. Some of my friends cheered me. I yell at people when they fell I said are u ok or u can do it. I ate fries and candy and I lost my money but I don’t care I had a lot of fun at the ski trip.

I would love to go back with my family and show them how much skiing I know. I did have a little bit of trouble stopping and turning, but then I got the hang of it and did pretty good! I want my own pair of skis and practice skiing good! :D

  63. The Hyland ski trip was amazing, I had so many great things happen there. Everyone had a great laugh when people feel over, and some of them hit signs and fences. The best thing that happened at Hyland was going down black diamond, I think it was the most fun because, it had big bumps and you could see the people on the ground laying there for a couple of seconds and laugh at them while your skiing like a pro. I almost forgot about the fries there, best french fries I have ever had!!

  71. I really liked the Hyland ski trip. I fell on my face two times and twisted my ankles a few times, but I still had fun going down the green and blue hills.
